We’ve had our struggles with homeschooling.
I’ve had a sense of what homeschooling could be, but our reality up until recently has come far from matching that ideal. I ended up feeling a great deal of inner conflict with their education when I was “in charge” of facilitating it.
However, I feel my prayers have been answered with a program that Cedar began at the end of February.
A sweet friend (Jodi Caren) shared with me a program called Galileo XP that her daughter had started at the beginning of the big world shift last year. Her daughter had flourished, and what Jodi described to me matched my vision for how learning could happen.
Galileo is an interest and student-led learning program that gives them so many resources to learn based upon their own interests and goals. It’s virtual and can be done from anywhere in the world, which works well for us, as location independence is important for us.
The growth that I’ve seen in Cedar in just about 6 weeks is astounding to me. She has taken control of her schedule. She is excited to do 5 hours of Zoom calls in a day (however, that amount is only her busiest day of the week). Her activities include arts & crafts, music, coding, graphic design & photo editing, 2D animation, filmmaking, science through Minecraft, and being a “changemaker”. We supplement with some math and reading & writing. Although, they offer programs and resources for math, reading, writing, language, and much more! They are continuously adding more options to their offerings, and Cedar gets to create her schedule each month based off the current offerings.
